Deployment and Hardware Installation

The MDS1 utilizes an intuitive, tool-free sliding bay assembly that bypasses the need for manual screwdriver tools.

  1. Accessing the PCB: Press down firmly and slide open the upper aluminum alloy cover to expose the inner motherboard tray.

  2. Drive Interfacing: Align your M.2 drive (NVMe or SATA) with the internal M-Key / B+M Key slot. Insert the drive at a 30-degree angle until completely seated.

  3. Fixing the Drive: Press the drive down flat against the tray. Secure it in place using the included toolless rubber push-pin latch at the rear mounting notch (accommodates 2230 to 2280 sizes).

  4. Thermal Treatment: Peel the protective film off the bundled high-efficiency silicone thermal pad. Lay it evenly across the exposed SSD flash chips.

  5. Reassembly: Slide the outer metal casing back into position until it securely clicks shut, establishing contact with the thermal pad for passive heat dissipation.

System Configuration and Optimization

As a driverless plug-and-play peripheral, configuration is primarily focused on host-level partition preparation.

  • Drive Initialization: Brand-new SSD modules must be provisioned. On Windows, right-click the Start Button and open Disk Management to prompt a GPT initialization, followed by creating a “New Simple Volume”. For cross-platform operational compatibility between Mac and PC, choose the exFAT filesystem.

  • Bus Speed Maximization: To achieve full 10 Gbps operational speeds, plug the enclosure directly into a USB 3.2 Gen 2 or Thunderbolt port via the native Type-C to Type-C cable. Interfacing with legacy USB Type-A 3.0 ports will limit throughput to 5 Gbps.

  • Automated Hibernation: The onboard controller features an automated 10-minute idle sleep timer to minimize drive wear and maximize power efficiency on mobile host machines.
